Andy Murray wants to play Wimbledon ‘again’

Andy Murray won’t give up. Double winner of Wimbledon, in 2013 and 2016, the Briton is trying everything to compete “once again” in his favorite tournament. However, just a week ago, there seemed little hope of seeing him in the first round of the 2024 edition (July 1 – July 14). Murray had to retire during his round of 16 match against Jordan Thompson at the Queen’s tournament.

“I would like to play a real match where I am competitive”

Operated on Saturday for a cyst in the spinal column, the ATP had announced the withdrawal of the former world number 1. But this Thursday, the Scot explained his desire to participate in the London tournament anyway. “Because of what I have invested in this sport in recent years, I would like to at least play a real match where I am competitive, not like what happened at Queen’s.”

It is not yet possible to confirm his presence on July 1st. Andy Murray leaves himself, at least, until Friday, the day of the draw for the main draw, to make his decision. At 37 years old and after difficult seasons following one another since his first injury in 2017, he wants to exit through the front door. The Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11), already won twice by Murray (2012 and 2016), also constitute a goal to conclude his immense career.
