THE APULIA BASKET CUP IS BACK FOR REGIONAL SELECTIONS
Until Sunday, the 2011 men’s and women’s teams will be compared
of Calabria, Puglia, Umbria and Sicily
The Apulia Basket Cup is back, a tournament for regional selections that will be held in Ugento from Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd June. Eight teams will participate in the second edition of the event, the male and female representatives of the 2011 class from Calabria, Umbria, Sicily and obviously Puglia.
Almost 150, including basketball players and staff members, are expected to attend the PalaOzan “Tiziano Manni” for one of the last events of the basketball season: «Here we are again with the Apulia Basket Cup – observes the president of Fip Puglia Francesco Damiani – after the first edition which had inaugurated this season. We started with the very young and ended with them. We are delighted to be able to host representatives from other regions for the second time in the same sporting year.”
The selection tournaments are always highly anticipated, especially the one in Ugento which marks the beginning of a new path for the 2011 men’s season: «For the boys – explains Damiani – it is a first test as a regional selection, after the activity which saw them mainly engaged at provincial level. The girls, on the other hand, know each other better and the Apulia Basket Cup is certainly an opportunity to increase their understanding.”
It starts on Thursday at 6.30pm with the inaugural match of the men’s tournament, Puglia-Umbria. The formula is that of the round-robin format and includes five matches on Friday and four on Saturday, between morning and afternoon, with Sunday morning dedicated to the last two matches of the women’s tournament and the awards ceremony.
In the 2011 men’s selection of Puglia, coordinated by the technical representative Patella and coached by the technicians Petracca and Spontella, Barisciano from Anspi Santa Rita Taranto, Brigida and Grassi from New Basket Brindisi, Cerminara from Basket Francavilla 1963, Colella from Basket School 96 Mola were called up. , Cirulli from Academy Cerignola, Di Girolamo from Nuova Matteotti Corato, Leporale from I Campioni di Domani Ceglie, Mascialino from New Basket Lecce, Paparella from Basket Fasano, Silvestri from Molfetta Ballers and Vignone from Aurora Brindisi. Also on the staff are the manager Ravelli and the trainer Dioguardi.
The 2011 female representative of Puglia will present themselves with Adriani from I Delfini Monopoli, Colavitto from Action Now! Monopoli, Cito from Support O Taranto, Gattullo and Mazzetto from La Scuola di Basket Lecce, Lacirignola from Basket Fasano, Magno from Olimpia Gioia, Marinelli from Bozzano Brindisi, Nardelli from Eden Boys Statte, Pirolo from Angiulli Bari, Russo from Pallacanestro Ugento, Salinari by Amatori Ricciardi Taranto. On the bench the technical representative Leopizzi and the coach Urbano, as well as the manager Conforti.
