Argentina Falls 78-71 to Mexico in Chihuahua: Third Game of Tour Approaches

After an even first half, Argentina fell 78-71 to Mexico in Chihuahua. Gonzalo Corbalán led the albiceleste offense with 21 points. The third game of the tour will be played on Saturday.

In its second test in Aztec territory, the team of young talents led by Herman Mlé faced the local team again, this time in the city of Chihuahua, after last night’s defeat in Juárez. The final result was 78-71 in favor of the Mexicans.

The Argentine team had a solid offensive start, leading by eight points in the first quarter, based on the inside play of Juan Fernández, added to the leadership of Francisco Farabello and Juani Marcos from the bench. Even so, Mexico responded with intensity and quickly recovered from that disadvantage, to reach a parity that was maintained for much of the match.

The home team managed to break the tie at the end of the third quarter and at the beginning of the last, when they found effectiveness in their outside shots, to reach a 15-point difference. Argentina responded with the substitute Gonzalo Corbalán, who finished as the top scorer of the night with 21 points, but Mexico managed the ball and ended up winning 78-71.

In addition to Corbalán, Juan Fernández stood out in the albiceleste team with 17 points and six rebounds. Tomás Chapero, for his part, contributed seven points and four recoveries, while Juani Marcos finished with six and four assists.

Those led by Mlé will train tomorrow in Chihuahua and will travel to Mexico City on Thursday, to face the third and final game of the tour on Aztec soil against the local team, which is preparing for the Olympic Qualifier. The game will be Saturday at 10:30 p.m. with Básquet Pass broadcast.
