Argentina’s Preparation for 2024 Copa América Debut: Team Lineup Taking Shape

The Argentine National Team continued its preparation for the debut in the 2024 Copa América against Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and although Lionel Scaloni did not give any indication of the team, some issues are already beginning to be defined.

On the Kennesaw State University campus, Scaloni led the national team in a practice open to the press where the first to take the field were Valentín Carboni, Nicolás González, Alexis Mac Allister and Germán Pezzella, while moments later Lionel appeared Messi along with Rodrigo De Paul, Ángel Di María, among others.

Thiago Almada was also present, who spoke with TyC Sports and “welcomed” him to the squad: the former Vélez is not part of this call but rather that of Javier Mascherano for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, although he is in the city because he plays for Atlanta United of the MLS.

The practice began with an aiming exercise and followed it with a “crazy” with three players in the middle with a touch in the central circle before continuing with the rest of the scheduled activities.

As far as the team is concerned, Scaloni already has a large part of the team’s backbone in mind but has doubts in the midfield and his attacking front, as it is up in the air who will accompany Rodrigo De Paul in the center of the field. I play like Messi up front.

With a couple of training sessions ahead, the coach would have defined seven of the 11 starters against Canada: Emiliano Martínez; Nahuel Molina, Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Nicolás Tagliafico, De Paul and Lionel Messi.

Argentina’s probable formation against Canada

Pending confirmation, Scaloni’s 11 would be: Emiliano Martínez; Nahuel Molina, Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Nicolás Tagliafico; Rodrigo De Paul, Leandro Paredes, Alexis Mac Allister or Enzo Fernández; Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martínez or Julián Álvarez, Ángel Di María or Nicolás González.
