Avventure in mountain bike a Cortina

The thrill of being in the presence of some of the most beautiful peaks of the Dolomites is the fuel of every mountain bike adventure in Cortina. In June, a new season begins to be experienced on two wheels: the area concentrates everything a rider aspires to within a radius of a few kilometres, from slopes to bike parks and rentals.

The Cortina Skiworld ski lifts allow you to avoid the most challenging differences in altitude, test yourself at altitude and test trails and single trails immersed in the spectacular nature of the Dolomites. There are many facilities that transport bicycles: in the 5 Torri Lagazuoi area there are the 5 Torri chairlift (from 8 June to 6 October), the Fedare chairlift (from 2 July to 15 September) and the Cortina Skyline (from 29 June to 8 September ); at Faloria the cable car of the same name (from 15 June to 29 September), at Cristallo the Rio Gere-Son Forca chairlift, at Auronzo the Taiarezze – Malon chairlift. In the Tofana area (from 8 June to 29 September) you can take your two-wheeler on the Tofana Express, Pié-Tofana-Duca d’Aosta, Duca d’Aosta-Pomedes, Gilaldon-Roncato and chairlifts (from 14 June to 29 September) on the cable car that takes you from Cortina to Colfiere and finally to Col Druscié.

Cortina Skiworld & Cortina Bike Pass

The entry key to this area with a “biker friendly” vocation is the Cortina Bike Pass, a versatile card that can be purchased for one day or three days. Alternatively there is the SuperSummer Card, in a daily version or extended over 3, 4, 5 or 7 days, which covers the entire Dolomiti SuperSummer area, with its Dolomiti Bike Galaxy proposal, which includes 400 mountain bike routes, panoramic roads, enduro, trails, freeride and downhill. All around, in Cortina, bikers will find 500 km practicable waiting for them, panoramic routes at high altitude between mountain pastures and huts, descents for freeride lovers, more relaxing itineraries suitable for families.

Adrenaline in the park

Starting from 14 June 2024, you will be able to experience the thrill of the descents along the Cortina Bike Park Dolomiti, which since 2023 has seen the two sides collaborate – Tofana-Freccia nel cielo and Ista – to combine the routes and expand the offer with 6 new routes, reaching 31 km of trails and 4000 meters of altitude difference. At the park, the novelty of the 2024 season is at Col Druscié, where two new downhill routes will be inaugurated. The first, Lucifer, is extremely technical and demanding, a challenge for those who love steep descents, tight curves and natural obstacles.

It is no coincidence that the Italian Downhill Championships will be held right here, on 20 and 21 July. For beginners, Cortinaline has been created, which starts from Colfiere and descends to the valley with a panoramic route that unravels in wide curves. Complete equipment – bikes and protections – for downhill can be rented at the start of the Gilardon-Roncato chairlift. All the news on Instagram: cortinabikeparkdolomiti

Riding experiences

Faloria Cristallo_There are various routes that wind through this area. The Mietres Freeride Bike trail starts from the mountain station of the Faloria cable car and runs downhill towards Rio Gere. From here it continues on the regional road of the Tre Croci pass in the direction of the Brite de Larieto farmhouse, and then turns towards Mietres. Also from Monte Faloria starts the Cortina-Faloria-Cristallo ring, 21 km of downhill mountain biking only. Once you reach Rio Gere, take the chairlift up to Son Forca and from here you travel along Val Padeon. Enter the Dolomite Cycle Path to return towards the center of Cortina.

Mountain Bike in Tofana

The Cortina-Freccia nel Cielo cable car “heads” comfortably towards Col Drusciè: from here you go down the dirt road towards Pie Tofana up to path 410 towards Passo Posporcora, or towards the Pie Tofana chairlift and then go up towards Pomedes. An alternative route allows you to reach, from Col Druscié, the road to Lake Ghedina, going down the slopes which in winter turn into ski slopes, and then return to Cortina from Socrepes, or continue further up to Fiames and Pian de ra Spines.

5 Cut-Giau

An enchanted landscape welcomes cyclists: to reach it you put yourself to the test on technical climbs and descents. At the arrival of the 5 Torri and Fedare chairlifts, you get on your bike to follow the area’s MTB routes, such as the 5 Torri Freeride, the Bike Trail Averau and the Bike Trail Super Panorama.

Measuring cup

With the Col de Varda lift you reach the refuge of the same name, and from here the lakes of Misurina and Antorno, romantic bodies of water where you can sunbathe. Misurina can also be reached by following the ‘Casera Maraia’ path which leads to the cycle path. The more experienced will be able to head towards the Città di Carpi refuge or even the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, passing them to get to the Auronzo refuge and from there returning to the chairlift departure point.

Auronzo

From Mount Agudo, reached with the lifts, a ride begins which offers precious glimpses of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the Auronzo Dolomites. It is a sometimes technical descent, which partly runs along the Fun Bob track and then flows into softer slopes. From the start of the Fun Bob, those who wish can take the path towards Val Da Rin, up to the crossroads which on the left leads to the Auronzo refuge, and on the right – for the fittest – continues towards Pian dei Buoi, and from there possibly to the refuge Ciareido. The return follows the same route backwards.

Chasing verticality: Climb&Ride

An adventure to be experienced with alpine guides, combining climbing, via ferrata and of course MTB. After a challenging climb along the via ferratas or the majestic rock walls of the Ampezzo valley you can experience the thrill of freeriding with your own mountain bike, which in the meantime will be taken to the summit. You reach the top by rising with the strength of your arms and then descend at speed, experiencing the thrill of a descent on wheels. The perfect formula for those who love discovering the mountains from many different perspectives.

A riding tour in Cortina

In one day you can explore all the most beautiful areas of Cortina, combined in a single route, thanks to the ski lifts. We leave at 9 in the morning, from the centre: with the Faloria cable car you go up to the refuge – with the excuse of a good coffee – and go down to Rio Gere, from here you cross the road and sit on the chairlift in the direction of Son Forca, at the foot of Monte Cristallo. Upon arrival we can launch downhill to Ospitale, meeting the Cortina-Dobbiaco cycle path, which takes us back towards the centre. In the Verocai area you descend to reach the ice stadium, and just behind, the Freccia nel Cielo cable car. In a few minutes we are at Col Druscié, where we get on the bike for the breathtaking descent to Pié Tofana. New ascent by cable car, this time to go to the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta and go back down along the Tofanina slope. After passing the Fedarola huts, you cross the road that leads to Passo Falzarego, and cycle uphill to Bai de Dones. Load your bikes on the chairlift, you find yourself at the Scoiattoli refuge, overlooking the 5 Torri. From here you descend to Cianzopé, and from there to Pezié de Parù. Crossing the Passo Giau road you continue to Lake Ajal and the village of Mortisa. From here just follow the signs for the center of Cortina.
