[스포츠W 임재훈 기자] ‘Badminton Empress’ Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) signaled a revival by reaching the top of an international competition for the first time in three months.

World No. 1 Ahn Se-young defeated Chen Yu-fei (China) 2-1 (21-19 16-21 21-12) in the women’s singles final of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 750 Singapore Open held in Singapore on the 2nd. Succeeded in losing 2 times in a row.

Ahn Se-young’s win in an international competition comes three months after the French Open on March 10. It is her third gold medal of the year, including at the Malaysia Open in January.

Ahn Se-young injured her knee in the finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, and although she is still suffering from knee pain, this win is encouraging in that she has maintained her hopes of Olympic domination by rising to the top of the international competition with just over two months left before the opening of the Paris Olympics.

At the All England Open, where she competed after winning the French Open in March, she was eliminated in the semifinals due to lack of stamina.

At the Asian Individual Championships in April, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals, and at the semifinals of the World Women’s Team Championships (Uber Cup) on the 4th of last month, she was unable to step on the court due to symptoms of enteritis.

However, Ahn Se-young gained even more confidence by defeating her opponent Chen Yu-fei (World No. 2) in the final of the Asian Games, who won the gold medal despite a knee injury, and became the world’s top player in three months.

With this win, Ahn Se-young’s overall record against Chen Yu-fei increased to 8 wins and 11 losses.

After finishing the game, Ahn Se-young said in a broadcast interview, “I had a difficult time due to injury, but I am happy and glad that I can show (results) as much as I worked.”
