Baltimore Orioles Crush New York Yankees in 17-5 Victory: Race for AL East Heats Up

Cedric Mullins hit a two-run homer during a six-run spurt in the second inning and the Baltimore Orioles manhandled rookie starter Luis Gil in a 17-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday.

The Orioles (49-25) are now only half a game behind the Yankees (51-26), while a hot fight is already emerging for first place in the East section of the American League.

Gunnar Henderson reached four times for the Orioles, who improved to 5-2 against the Yankees. They have won their last 22 series against division rivals. According to’Elias Sports Bureauthe Orioles thus improved the record which was jointly held by the Atlanta Braves (1998 to 2000), the Milwaukee Brewers (1991 to 1992) and the Cincinnati Reds (1969 to 1970 and 1975).

Henderson had three hits, including two doubles, to extend his streak of games with at least one appearance on base to 27. He has at least one hit in each of his last 13 games. The young Orioles sensation also had an RBI on a grounder in the sixth.

It was his fourth long ball in five games.

Since taking the leadoff hitter, Ohtani is 8-for-18 with two homers, three doubles and six RBIs.
