A second consecutive promotion achieved in an epic way in a packed Lasesarre had to be celebrated at the level of what Barakaldo’s historic feat represents. If already during the last weeks, the town has been dyed in black and white, showing how identified the fans have felt with this team, after having finished the season with the best possible finish, there has been complete ecstasy in the municipality of La Left margin.
On Saturday the party lasted until late into the night. Players, coaching staff and directors joined the crowd and celebrated in style the milestone achieved by overcoming the final of the promotion play-off, with an agonizing extra time in between in Lasesarre. However, happiness reigns around the factory and there was still strength to continue celebrating a success that is well worth any type of celebration.
Today at 6:00 p.m. the reception of the team at City Hall was prepared, with the same approach as when the promotion to Second Federation was completed last year. Despite the fact that many were suffering from a hangover from the previous day, no one wanted to miss this event. The black and white t-shirts, scarves and flags once again took over all the streets of the center, to the point that nearly 3,000 people gathered to recognize the work, the honor and, ultimately, the tremendous feat of the team.
The footballers were acclaimed and applauded from the moment they got off the bus until they went up to the balcony of the City Hall. Before, the mayor, Amaia del Campo, dedicated a few words of gratitude to them in the plenary hall. «You have made us dream, although also suffer, but that is the history of Barakaldo. You have fulfilled the motto that says that ‘Barakaldo never gives up’. “You have made the dreams of many come true and we want you to feel the love of the people.” Immediately afterwards, she presented the club with the symbol of the city, “so that you do not forget that Barakaldo is with you,” the councilor added.
Ricardo Arana, president of the club, commented that “we have a team of great people who grow with the values that we have in the town; people who make an effort, who do not give up and are humble. The fans have blended in with them because of that. “You are very well represented with this squad.” It was his turn to go up to the balcony and have the iconic image of thousands of fans singing along with the players the typical ‘Barakaldo Oe’.
“There are no two without three”
The celebration ended at the kiosk in the square with the footballers doing rounds with the microphone. The first of the players that the fans requested was Endika Buján from Baracal, who will play next season for Bilbao Athletic. Then it was Ander Pacheco, one of the most beloved players, who highlighted that “there are no two without three, so next year we will return.” The president spoke along the same lines, stating that “we have gotten the pleasure of going up to the balcony, for next year we have already got the hang of it.”
Fernando Ferreira, the team’s prop man, sent the same message as in the last promotion, in something that has practically become a classic. “Become partners!” he exclaimed. «On Saturday there were more than 7,000 of us in Lasesarre and there are 2,000 members. Let’s see if you dare and see Barakaldo in the First Division,” he commented to applause. Another high point was when Jon Tena interrupted Markel Artetxe’s speech to say that “Artetxe is marrying us!”
