Barcelona Announces Departure of Players Cancelo, Alonso, and Félix: Negotiations in Progress for Extensions

Barcelona announced this Sunday that defenders Joao Cancelo and Marcos Alonso, and forward Joao Félix, will not continue next season at the Barça club after the end of their respective contracts on June 30, but minutes later he deleted the messages who made references to the Portuguese players with whom he is negotiating an extension for one more year.

The Catalans had said goodbye to the players but deleted the messages due to the confusion they caused. Barcelona is negotiating with Atlético Madrid and Manchester City over Portuguese playersthe teams that loaned them the previous season, to extend the loans.

Joao Felix scored ten goals in 44 games last season and Joao Cancelo added four in 42 appearances. Both are being considered for the upcoming project but the club is looking to keep them at a low cost.

The case of Marcos Alonso is differentThe full-back, who was signed in 2022 from Chelsea, is ending his contract which will not be renewed, so the Catalans thanked him for the work he did within the team.

In his two seasons under coach Xavi Hernández, Alonso played 45 official matches, in which he scored three goals, and contributed to the league title won in the 2022-2023 season.

Another case that remains to be resolved is that of Sergi Robertocaptain and key player of the squad. His contract also ends on June 30 but he has an offer to continue at Barcelona. The difficulty of the case is that Financial Fair Play limits the options of the Catalan team to offer him a new contract.
