Battle for the Round of 16: Scotland vs. Hungary in European Championship Group A

Who will have a chance of reaching the round of 16?

The last match day in our European Championship Group A is upon us. Scotland will face Hungary in Stuttgart and can still hope to advance. It starts on Sunday at 9 p.m.

The Scots were able to preserve a slim chance of reaching the round of 16 with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Switzerland on Wednesday. ManUnited star Scott McTominay (27) had shot his “Bravehearts” into the lead early on, before former Bayern ace Xherdan Shaqiri (32) equalized with a dream goal.

Scotland coach Steve Clarke (60): “It was a good reaction to a disappointing night. We are still in the tournament. (…) I think it was a good team performance against a good opponent.”

Hungary recently suffered a 0:2 defeat against our German national team, meaning they are still without a point in this European Championship. But with a win against the Scots, they could still dream of progressing.

Coach Marco Rossi (59): “We are not mathematically eliminated from the European Championship and in the last game we will try everything to win.”

Which Premier League star can put his stamp on the game – Hungary’s Dominik Szoboszlai (l., Liverpool FC) or Scotland’s Scott McTominay (Manchester United)?

Euro 2024: How Hungary and Scotland will reach the round of 16

  • Scotland: With a win against Hungary, the Scots would most likely reach the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams in their group. If the Bravehearts win by a large margin and Switzerland loses by several goals against Germany, they could even finish second.
  • Hungary: With a bit of luck, the three points from a win against Scotland could be enough to advance to the knockout phase as one of the best third-placed teams.
