Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior and Sports Joachim Herrmann at the opening of the German Kata Championships – Erlangen hosts the event for the fourth time – Exciting competitions in many disciplines and age groups

+++ After three successful events in 2009, 2014 and 2019, the German Kata Championships are taking place in Erlangen for the fourth time this year. “This shows that judo and the German Kata Championships have a long tradition at TV 1848 Erlangen. The Erlangen judoka are not only very successful in sports, but also extremely committed, and this across club boundaries,” said Bavaria’s Sports Minister Joachim Herrmann and this year’s patron at the opening. “We can once again look forward to exciting competitions in the various kata disciplines and age groups.” For the Sports Minister, it is also clear: “All of this can only work if there are people who are passionate about their club. Without volunteers and the tireless efforts of many helping hands, competitions like this and also the sports activities in the club would not be possible. I would like to thank the entire team at TV 1848 Erlangen for their extraordinary sporting and social commitment.” The minister wished all athletes much success and fair competitions. +++

In addition to the great sporting achievements of TV 1848 Erlangen, Herrmann also highlighted the great social importance of the judo department. “Anyone can take part here: regardless of age, gender, origin or disability. Because integration and inclusion are actively and exemplary lived at TV 1848 Erlangen,” praised Herrmann. As part of this year’s championship, the Inclusive German Kata Championship for Judo for People with Intellectual Disabilities (ID-Judo) will also take place.

In conclusion, the minister emphasised: “Our sports clubs enrich life immensely. That is why state support for sport is particularly important to me. Last year, almost half a million euros were made available for judo alone! Money well spent!” The minister assured that there would also be strong investments in sport in the future: “For 2024, we are increasing regular state support for sport to 110.6 million euros. An investment in volunteer work and sport is always a valuable investment,” Herrmann emphasised.
