Bayern Munich tried to commit a ‘robbery’ on Ajax in recent days, journalist Mike Verweij wrote on behalf of De Telegraaf on Monday. The sixteen-year-old central defender was presented on Monday afternoon in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, but the Rekordmeister tried to persuade him through Vincent Kompany to opt for a German adventure.
According to Verweij, Ajax breathed a sigh of relief on Monday afternoon after Mokio signed his name. “Although the defender had already given his word, Ajax framed him for a ‘robbery’ by Bayern Munich. For the next three seasons, Mokio is under contract with Ajax, which has big plans for the left foot. “In the discussions with Ajax, the Belgium Under 17 player was given the ‘Alderweireld and Vertonghen route’, which should take him to the European top via Ajax 1.”
Mokio will initially play his matches on behalf of Jong Ajax. The Belgian has been promised that he can train with the Amsterdam main squad. Mokio played four times on behalf of KAA Gent, the club from which he was acquired.
Mokio did not yet have a professional contract at Ghent, so Ajax only transferred a training allowance to Belgium. Transfermarkt estimates the market value of the very young defender at 1.5 million euros.
Both Ajax and PSV attracted the teenage talent from the Netherlands. Mokio, who is the captain of the Belgium national youth team, is known by our southern neighbors as one of the country’s greatest talents.
FC Barcelona previously dropped out of the battle for Mokio, but Bayern Munich made frantic attempts to snare the Belgian last week. However, Kompany could not convince his younger compatriot to cancel Ajax.
