The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich are the first finalists for the German championship. In Würzburg they also won the third game of the semi-final playoff series. The outstanding player was a former NBA star.

The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich are the first team to qualify for the playoff finals for the German championship. The Munich team beat the Würzburg Baskets 75:61 (38:33) on Sunday and finished the best-of-five semi-final series 3:0. The opponent for the final series will be determined between the Niners Chemnitz and Alba Berlin. “We are just happy to be in the finals. We don’t care who our opponent is,” said Munich’s Carsen Edwards on the streaming channel Dyn.

There was a bit of bad news for the 3,140 enthusiastic fans in the sold-out tactake Arena before the game even started. The Würzburg team, already plagued by numerous injuries, had to do without Isaiah Washington (ankle injury) in the third game. The guests took advantage of this and took the lead for the first time at 24:22 in the middle of the second quarter.

After the break, Bayern continued to pull ahead. NBA veteran Serge Ibaka in particular was unstoppable under the basket. The 34-year-old ended up with 19 points, eleven of which came in the decisive third quarter.

Emotional farewell in Würzburg

Würzburg never gave up, but also had nothing to counter. Nothing changed in the final quarter and the cup winners finished the game confidently. “Pride prevails. We gave our best. It was a great season,” said Baskets coach Sasa Filipovski.
