The Belgian clubs are eagerly looking for reinforcements on the transfer market. Several clubs also meet each other as competitors. STVV defender Rein Van Helden is wanted and is on the radar of JPL clubs.
Earlier, KAA Gent and KRC Genk were already mentioned for the 21-year-old central defender, but according to Sacha Tavolieri, KV Mechelen has the best papers to recruit the Belgian youth international. The negotiations are going in the right direction.
Emptying
STVV already saw two trendsetters leave for KRC Genk with Jarne Steuckers and Matte Smets. Head coach Thorsten Fink also made the switch. Van Helden was also on Fink’s list, but it looks like the defender will choose KV Mechelen.
Van Helden still has a contract with the Canaries until 2025, but he seems ready for a new challenge. Van Helden has a market value of 2.5 million euros and played a total of 37 matches for Sint-Truiden VV last season. An agreement is expected in the coming days.
Top clubs trumped
Not only KRC Genk, but also KAA Gent and Wouter Vrancken see Van Helden as a welcome reinforcement. KV Mechelen is still negotiating with STVV, but according to Tavolieri, both clubs are confident in an agreement.
