Bolivia to Play World Cup Qualifiers at El Alto Municipal Stadium

The Hernando Siles Stadium will not be Bolivia’s home ground in the next three home matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The information was anticipated in an interview by La Verde’s coach, Antônio Carlos Zago, the broadcaster Total Sport.

The Brazilian coach stated that the clashes with Venezuela, Colombia and Paraguay will take place at the El Alto Municipal Stadium, the place where Always Ready plays its matches. In this way, the altitude rises from 3640 to more than 4,100 meters above sea level. The games in question are expected to take place in September, October and November of this year on dates yet to be detailed.

In the evaluation, Zago considers that it is necessary to use all possible resources to obtain points in the quest to participate in the group stage of the next World Cup. At the moment, the Bolivians are in second to last place, with three units, just one ahead of last placed Peru.

Furthermore, Antônio Carlos practically ruled out sending duels at sea level because he understands that the majority of Bolivian athletes do not have the necessary physical adaptation in this scenario:

“We have to make a difference in El Alto. People ask why we don’t play at sea level. But, if the majority of our players play in El Alto, we have to take advantage of that. For us, the higher the altitude, the better. It’s a weapon we have. At the same time, for us, it becomes difficult when we lower (altitude) and, when we reach sea level, everything becomes different”, said the Bolivian commander.

“If all our players played abroad, we could play at sea level, as we would have more physically prepared players. Now, we have to make a difference in El Alto. Getting three wins at home would give us a great chance to fight for a place in the next World Cup,” he concluded.
