The Bonn Capitals narrowly won game one of the top duel against the Hamburg Stealers with a score of 3:2. At Ballpark Langenhorst, the decision was made in favor of the guests from the Rhineland in the fifth inning.

At this point, the Stealers were ahead 1-0. Brehan Murphy had been successful for the northern Germans in the third inning with an RBI single. But things went haywire in the fifth inning. First, the Capitals loaded the bases, and shortly afterwards, after a walk and two hit-by-pitches, they suddenly had a two-run lead. For Hamburg’s starter on the mound, Simon Bäumer, the game was over.

In the seventh inning, Kevin van Meensel reduced the deficit by one run with an RBI double. But Bonn’s starting pitcher Markus Solbach was as stable as ever, allowing eight hits, two walks, but only two runs in eight innings. He sent the opposing batters back to the dugout nine times with strikeouts. Solbach also secured the win. Rickert Koch made the save, taking over for Solbach on the mound in the ninth inning.
