Last summer, Rocco Reitz (22) was only a supplementary player in Gladbach’s professional squad. During the pre-season, he fought his way into the team under Gerardo Seoane (45), was the only Borussia player to play in all 34 league games and made the jump to the U21 national team.
The reward: Most recently, he was allowed to complete the European Championship preparations of the German national team under Julian Nagelsmann (36) for two weeks.

Reitz then said goodbye to the holidays with an emotional Instagram statement: “What an outstanding experience at the end. Very proud that I was able to end my football year full of hard work like this. Now it’s time to recharge my batteries and then attack again.”

BILD wanted to know from Gladbach fans: Which of the Borussia youngsters will follow in Reitz’s footsteps – and make a similar start in the coming season?
Over 13,600 BILD readers took part in the online survey and decided: Japanese jewel Shio Fukuda (20) is the great hope of Gladbach fans!
Fukuda, who has so far made five short appearances in the Bundesliga with a total of 32 minutes of playing time, received 30 percent of all votes – first place.
