Boston Celtics head coach on Porzingis: All respect to him

Porzingis won the National Basketball Association (NBA) championship with the Boston “Celtics” on Monday, Porzingis becoming the first Latvian basketball player – NBA champion.

In the second game of the series, Porzingis suffered a rare foot injury, which did not prevent him from returning for the fifth game. In the fourth game, the Liepāja player was in the application, but did not go to the field.

As Mazulla revealed, in the fourth game Porzingis would be used only if it was necessary to win the ball in very important episodes, but in that match the Bostonians convincingly lost and there was no such need. He participated in the fifth game because he wanted to end the streak with the team.

“Porzingis was not influenced by the team doctors and said he will play. All respect to him,” said Mazulla.

Porzingis confirmed after the Finals that he will need surgery, but did not say when it would be performed. It is likely that he will not be able to help the Latvian basketball team in the qualification tournament for the Paris Olympic Games scheduled in Riga at the beginning of July.
