Bueu writes a piece of history

Andres Rios as a boss, Andrés González on the pike, and David Martínez, Javier Domínguez, Carlos Pérez, Jorge Rodríguez, Ismael Lijó, Diego Otero, Martín Pérez, Óscar Martínez, Álex Rodríguez, Miguel Piñeiro, José Manuel Freire and Salvador Castro. These are the 14 names – along with that of the coach, José Ferral – that yesterday entered the history of the Club do Mar de Bueu Shimei when disputing his primera regatta in the Liga Eusko Label de Traineras. The waters of Riazor and the Bandera Cidade da Coruña witnessed the feat of a club that a little over a decade ago its reinvention began and that 20 years earlier he went out rowing in a heavy wooden boat simply because he wanted to ensure that the sport of rowing would not be lost in the municipality.

Today that crew –with eight Buenenses in its ranks– competes with the best, and yesterday had an exciting premiere despite the last position. The people from Buenos Aires started –things from the draw– in the last round together with Ondárroa and Getaria, and seeing at his side a true ocean liner like Urdaibai Bermeo. Those from O Morrazo came out with impetus, without giving an inch in the first meters of the race. Then, they stood in Urdaibai’s wake and kept up with their other two teammates, but Little by little the weight of reality took overOndárroa and Getaria gained ground and as they passed the first turning, Bueu was five and four seconds behind its rivals respectively.

The long way back became more uphill and the seconds fell to those of O Morrazo, who in the ciaboga gave up 15 seconds to Ondárroa and 14 to Getaria. As if that were not enough, the references to the previous rounds did not allow José Ferral’s team to have any hope either. Cabo da Cruz and San Pedro, the closest, were very far away on the stopwatch. From there the test became a time trial for those from Buenos Aires, who took the third place, 21 seconds behind Ondárroa and Getaria. It was now a matter of holding on, doing their job and gaining sensations, given that it did not seem likely to avoid the last place.
