“I think that Porzingis did more than half a year with our Ministry of Foreign Affairs! I believe that the name of Latvia is really being brought to the world with Porzingis’ victory,” emphasized Gulbis. “I think that they haven’t done anything in 10 years,” added Ramona Petraviča, deputy of the 14th Saeima, who also participated in the discussion of the TV24 program.

It has already been reported that the Latvian basketball player from Liepāja, Kristaps Porziņgis, won the championship title with the US Boston Celtics on Monday, June 17, thus becoming the first Latvian basketball player – NBA champion.
In the fifth match of the final series, the Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 106:88 (28:18, 39:28, 19:21, 20:21) at home, reaching a 4-1 victory in the series to four victories. It is the first championship title for the Boston team since 2008.
Porzingis has given as much as he could to the team in the NBA playoffs, that’s what Porzingis himself said after winning the title. “The team and I personally had to sacrifice a lot to get there. Today we reached the top. Everything is not right with my leg, but I gave the team as much as I could,” said Porzingis in a conversation with “NBA TV”.
Due to injuries, Porzingis missed a large part of the play-off games. “I saw that the team is so well assembled that they can do it even without one of the leaders. It was a pleasure to see that everyone took a step forward,” emphasized Porzingis.
“Celtics” has become the most titled team in the NBA with 18 championship titles. Before that, the Boston team shared the honor of the most titled team with the Los Angeles Lakers, who won 17 trophies.’
