Calvin Verdonk Set to Join Indonesian National Team as New Player

VIVA – The Indonesian National Team, which is currently undergoing a new player concentration, has one new player. He is Calvin Verdonk who will undergo a hearing with Commission X and Commission III DPR RI to complete the process of becoming an Indonesian citizen on Monday 3 June 2024.

The 27 year old left back was seen joining training with 18 Indonesian national team players led by coach Shin Tae-yong on Friday 31 May 2024.

After the plenary meeting, Calvin Verdonk will take the oath at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Then the player will take care of his identity card (KTP) and family card to get a passport.

Although his status in the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches is not yet known for certain, Sumardji said Verdonk took part in training because coach Shin wanted to monitor the player’s condition directly.

“I need to say that today Verdonk has participated in training with the national team, indeed that was the wish of the PSSI Chairman, of course at the request of Shin Tae-yong, that Verdonk could join and thank God he joined this morning,” said Sumardji.

“The goal is for Coach Shin to know his condition and be able to unite while waiting for the naturalization process being carried out by the federation,” he added.

Calvin Verdonk is the main player from NEC Nijmegen. Last season, he played 40 times including 33 times in the Eredivisie.

Calvin Verdonk plays as a left wing back. He will heat up the competition with Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Pratama Arhan, and Shayne Pattynama.

At international level, Verdonk, who is now 26 years old, has been a regular for the Dutch national team at all age levels, but he has never been called up to the senior team. In 2014, Verdonk was in the spotlight after scoring a beautiful goal at the U-17 European Cup.
