Canada in the quarter-finals of the Copa America and Argentina, already qualified, dominates Peru

Thanks to its draw against Chile on the night of Saturday to Sunday (0-0), Canada seized second place in Group A to qualify for the quarter-finals, during its first participation in the Copa America. For the second time in as many matches, Alphonso Davies’ teammates were in numerical superiority after the expulsion of Toulouse’s Gabriel Suazo (27th) who received two yellow cards in the space of fifteen minutes.

In this match, chances were rare on either side. The Canadians thought they had taken the lead in added time but Tani Oluwaseyi’s goal was ultimately disallowed for offside. Jesse Marsch’s men will therefore face the leaders of Group B (Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, Jamaica) for the first quarter-final in their history.

On a well-placed ball from Angel Di Maria, Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring (46th). Then, the Inter Milan striker doubled the lead a few minutes from the end of the match (86th) and brought his total of goals in this edition of the Copa America to 4. Peru therefore finished fourth in this group A, behind Chile, and Argentina will face the second in group B in the quarter-finals.
