Canadian Marina Stakusic Dominates First Round of Wimbledon Qualifying Tournament

Canadian Marina Stakusic was quick in the first round of the qualifying table for the Wimbledon tournament on Tuesday, after crushing Frenchwoman Carole Monnet 6-0, 6-1.

Stakusic, 164th in the world, was never worried by her rival, 204th, en route to victory on court no. 8 at the All England Club.

The Ontarian dominated virtually all statistical categories during this duel, even converting five of her 10 break points at the expense of Monnet. On the other hand, the representative of the maple leaf saved the only break point she offered him.

In the second round of qualifying, Stakusic will face Frenchwoman Chloé Paquet, 116th player in the world.

For her part, Rebecca Marino lost to the American McCartney Kessler after a long battle, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

Marino, 33, scored eleven aces, nine more than her rival, and won 108 points in the match, compared to 111 for Kessler.

Their compatriot Carol Zhao lost to Anastasia Tikhonova 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. The match lasted 1 hour 56 minutes.

Then, in Eastbourne, Quebecer Leylah Annie Fernandez and her Japanese playing partner Ena Shihabara will meet in the round of 16 of the women’s doubles with German Laura Siegemund and Czech Barbora Krejcikova.
