Canadian Olympic basketball team manager Rowan Barrett said the Warriors are preventing Wiggins from competing in Paris 2024

TORONTO – The general manager of the Canadian Olympic basketball team, Rowan Barrettsaid on Friday that Golden State Warriors are preventing Andrew Wiggins compete in the Paris Olympicsbut the Warriors responded that it was a mutual decision between the team and Wiggins.

Wiggins was among 20 players who received invitations to camp to determine the Olympic team.

“For us, Andrew was fine“Barrett noted. “We talk to him constantly, he has been training for weeks and weeks preparing for this. And then I got a call from Golden State a day or two before camp saying they were holding him back.

“So, from what I see, this It’s not Andrew’s decision, it’s the team’s.. Therefore, he will not be with us.”

Los Warriors said to The Associated Press on Friday night that fIt was a mutual decision between the team and Wiggins.

The 10-year NBA veteran last played for Canada in an Olympic qualifying tournament in 2021.

“I’m disappointed for him,” Barrett said.“She’s been through a lot over the last few years and then obviously her mom was an Olympian and this is something she’s looking forward to and working towards.”
