Captain Skriniar: “The pressure is on the English”
Slovakia is aiming for an upset in its round of 16 at the European Championship against England on Sunday (6 p.m.). Captain Milan Skriniar said this on Friday. “They will be under much more pressure than we are. That could work to our advantage.”
The Slovakian defence chief stressed the great commitment for his country: “Of course it will be something special. Not only for me, but for everyone in Slovakia. If we beat England, it would be our best result in history. I believe we can do it,” said the 29-year-old PSG defender.
Slovakia beat the Red Devils on the opening match day in Group E. England, however, is a different story, according to Skriniar.
“Their team is full of world stars. But we have seen their games in the group stage and they are not yet playing at their best. This could be our chance to beat them. They rely on individual quality and know they have players who can play games decide. But I think we can handle them with our team spirit.”
