Celebrating 20 Years: The Success of the Gimpo Mayor Open Badminton Competition

The Gimpo Mayor Open Badminton Competition, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, was successfully held at the Gimpo Lifestyle Gymnasium on the 15th and 16th.

The competition was divided into groups according to age and level, from those in their 20s to those in their 70s or older, and was held on a large scale so that any Gimpo citizen could participate, including general participants as well as club participants belonging to the association.

In particular, despite the intense competition schedule, the opening ceremony held on the 16th featured an entrance ceremony for each club and various events, creating a festive atmosphere enjoyed by all participants.

In addition, at the opening ceremony on this day, a large banner expressing the hope of hosting the international skating rink in Gimpo, which Gimpo City is currently focusing on, was accompanied by cheers from participants, making it a meaningful opportunity to once again feel the citizens’ desire to host the skating rink.

Meanwhile, Gimpo City submitted a challenge to the competition for an alternative site for the Taereung International Skating Rink, which is being conducted by the Korea Sports Council, and is considering excellent transportation conditions such as the Gimpo Gold Line, the recently announced Seoul Line 5 extension, and proximity to the international airport as its strengths in attracting the international skating rink. I’m picking it.

In addition, to express citizens’ wishes for hosting an international skating rink, online signatures are being collected on the Gimpo City Hall website (https://www.gimpo.go.kr/portal/index.do).
