Retirement always remains an important moment for the person concerned. This state of affairs came to fruition for Jérôme Cailliau, judo teacher, practicing this martial art notably at the Porzay-Nevet dojo. The yellow and white tatami mats of this dojo, located at the Plogonnec sports complex, welcomed, on Friday evening June 28, the judokas present for their last training of the season, which was also that of this emeritus judo teacher in more than one title. The members of this club had unknowingly concocted a major surprise for the sensei. Indeed, in front of all the judokas, a jury, and in particular with the presence of members of his family, the professor had to undergo, as in his beginnings, a simulation of the passage of the equivalent grade from green belt to blue.

A CV as long as your arm
Aged 65, and officially retired on July 1, Jérôme Cailliau will still return to the tatami mats at the start of the school year. “It’s not a page that turns after 31 years at the Dojo du Porzay,” he confides. In all modesty, he says he has trained around 200 black belts. Present at the club since 1993, he has taught in Daoulas, Douarnenez, at the Dojo des Abers as well as in Briec. He has a CV as long as his arm: 3rd in the French ju-jitsu championship in 1999, instructor at the Rennes executive school, member of the departmental ju-jitsu commission and four years at the regional commission. He also served ten years on the arbitration commission, and arbitrated for over 25 years. During the speech given on behalf of the judokas present, Friday June 28 in the evening, a big thank you was addressed to him for his advice, the hours spent at his side, and also “all the kicks in the butt”. A friendly drink and a barbecue closed the evening in a friendly atmosphere around the official retirement of the judo teacher, Jérôme Cailliau and the values of this martial art.
