CENTENARY TRAIL | Sportdimontagna.com

Another record for the Centenary Trail by Lovato, organized by the company based in Gorle (BG) in collaboration with Mario Poletti’s Fly Up Sport in Foppolo, which this year managed to bring something to the mountains of Alta Val Brembana like 600 trailrunning enthusiasts accompanied by family and friends. With over 600 athletes at the start on the three distances, appropriately modified due to snow at high altitude, the Centenary Trail was also an occasion for celebration thanks to the afternoon concert of the folk rock group Gotto Explosivo, which attracted fans from all over the province of Bergamo to Foppolo . But let’s get to the races, opened by the mass start which, punctually at 9.30 am, provided scenic and effective images, thanks to the snake of multicolored athletes who went up the Quarta Baita slope from the departure point of the Piazzale degli Alberghi cable car. A multitude of runners stood out against the background of the arches, flags and “Lovato orange” banners and, even further away, the mountains that this race enhances and makes known even to those coming from outside the province.

Race report

The queen distance, although not the longest, was the 23 km, this year the first stage of the prestigious Skyrunner Italy Series circuit organized by the Italian Skyrunning Federation and which also includes the International Rosetta Skyrace and the Zacup. The winner was the brilliant Mattia Tanara, Scott bearer, and the women’s Pegarun Maria Princis. Princis, new addition to Pegarun, finished with a time of 02:58:51, followed by Silvia Zanchi (03:01:55, Elleerre team) and Sara Mangili (03:10:59, Atletica Presezzo).

In the men’s category it was a battle between Tanara and the local ski mountaineering champion, William Boffelli. Interviewed by speaker Tony Tranquillo, Tanara declared himself truly satisfied with the performance and determined for the remainder of the 2024 season which, right from the start, has given good results. Starting from the victory at the Valzurio Trail and continuing with the good fifth place at the prestigious Resegup. About a minute behind Boffelli during the climb, Tanara caught up with the champion on the descent, a specialty in which he excels and manages to make the difference. Third place, but far behind the head of the race, Carlo Curnis of the Elleerre team.

In the 14 kilometers, first place went to Nicola Mostacchetti, followed closely by Luca Curti. Federico Zambelli completes the podium. Among the women, the fastest to cross the finish line was Banchialem Amodio, followed by Beatrice Ferrari and Alessandra Persico. For Amodio the races were conducted from the first kilometers and completed solo.

In the new and popular 31km distance, the first to go sold out, Luca Raschetti of Team Valtellina was surprised by finishing ahead of Diego Angella and Luca Arrigoni with a time of 3 hours, 4 minutes and 29 seconds. An unexpected victory for the man from Valtellina who today demonstrated that he has good potential.

Nothing to be done for the women: Roberta Jacquin from Aosta Valley did not betray expectations and led the race alone, arriving with a beautiful smile on her face and finishing in exactly 4 hours. Second place for Paola Nodari and third step of the podium for Arianna Mariani.

The prize in memory of Dario Consoli for the largest group, which last year went to the Gaaren#BeaHero team, was awarded this year to the large representation of the Bergamo Runners.

Success also for AGRI TRAIL: the walk to discover the mountain pastures around Foppolo organized in collaboration with UniBg, which saw the participation of around fifty people.
