Championship Success in Badminton: Quimperlois Dominates with Three Wins

Badminton was in the spotlight this weekend in Saint-Renan with no less than 174 badminton players attending the Finistère championships. More than 300 matches were played between Saturday June 1 and Sunday June 2, 2024. On the first day, the first title was awarded to Thomas Jourdren, from the Trégunc club, who won the men’s singles in the national category.

The next day, it was Fabien Porchet, from the Quimperlé club, who distinguished himself by winning three finals at regional level: singles, doubles and mixed doubles. At 38, the former nationally ranked player could savor. “Playing 16 matches over two days, it’s starting to take its toll on the physical side, especially since there are talented young players who gave me problems. But the main thing is there, I came in the hope of winning three tables, it’s done,” indicated the man who, two years ago, qualified for the European Championships in Slovenia. The badista from South Finistère is already thinking about the French championships which should be organized in Quimperlé next year, in the hope of qualifying for the veteran world championships.

Fabien Porchet, from the Quimperlé club, won three finals: the singles, the doubles and the mixed doubles.

The president of the Saint-Renan club wins the title twice!

Success also for the organization and for the president of Bad’Iroise Saint-Renan, Mickaël Le Marchand, who leaves with two Finistère champion titles in men’s doubles and mixed doubles. “It’s a hell of a weekend for us, first of all with the organization and I thank all the volunteers for the work accomplished. As for me, I’m enjoying my two successes, even if I admit that at the end of the weekend, it’s getting physically tough. But it was a great celebration of badminton for this second organization for the club.”
