Chaos Before the Tour: Remco Evenepoel’s Climbing Assistant Jan Hirt Injured in Freak Accident

As if it is not allowed. In the preparation Remco Evenepoel already saw master domestiques Cattaneo and Masnada drop out for this Tour, a few days ago lieutenant Vervaeke also fell heavily and today there was another huge blow just before the first starting shot.

Just before the ride unofficially started, his climbing assistant (after Landa, the last man to assist Evenepoel) Jan Hirt chatted heavily against the asphalt. The Czech got caught on a fan’s backpack, went over his handlebars and suddenly fell on his face.

Huge damage, Lampaert and Lefevere furious

The damage is severe. Hirt’s face was covered in blood and the team staff even spent a long time looking for a broken piece of tooth that was still lying on the street. No less than 3 teeth were broken off. The Czech still got on the bike in Florence, but you can’t start much worse…

Yves Lampaert strongly criticizes the organization. β€œIt is complete chaos. The organization has no control over it at all. People are running everywhere. Jan kept stuttering and went over the top. We as riders get fines galore for small things, the organization should take a look in the mirror. It is unacceptable,” he says sharply to HLN.
