Charlotte Hornets Plan to Extend Miles Bridges Contract Despite Domestic Violence Controversy

The Hornets’ decision to extend the qualifying offer to Miles Bridges after his case of domestic violence, allowing him to continue with the team for a year, generated a lot of controversy last year, but it seems that those in Charlotte do not regret the decision. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, a journalist from ESPNThe North Carolina franchise wants to continue to count on the player and intends to renew his contract in free agency, completely ignoring all the extra-sporting controversy surrounding it.

Bridges played 69 games last year, in which he averaged 21 points and 7.3 rebounds. These numbers a priori seem to make him worthy of a salary greater than the 7.9 million dollars he received, but nevertheless it is not entirely clear if other franchises are going to be interested in him given his situation, which could weaken his ability to negotiate with Charlotte. In fact, Wojnarowski points out that management would like to keep him but not at any price, so we will have to see how much they are willing to offer him.

The Bridges case, although far from being the only one, is certainly the most infamous in terms of gender-based violence and the NBA in recent years. Despite being found guilty of the events, the NBA imposed a ban of only 10 games on him, which, in view of later cases such as Ja Morant or Jontay Porter, seems to establish a strange order in terms of the seriousness of certain events. Since then, his career has continued normally except for the boos he receives in visiting arenas, and it doesn’t seem that this is going to change now that Charlotte is considering renewing his contract.
