During the Portugal vs. Georgia match in Gelsenkirchen, a fan once again tried to get to Ronaldo – and jumped from the roof of the players’ tunnel.

After the final whistle, a boy climbed from the stands of the Schalke stadium onto the roof of the tunnel and jumped onto the steps leading to the changing rooms. His target was obviously Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s prominence is a challenge

During the Portuguese team’s match against Turkey in Dortmund, several people entered the pitch and tried, in some cases successfully, to take a photo with Ronaldo. Ronaldo’s prominence is also putting the organization of the games to the test.

After the incidents in Dortmund, UEFA announced that it would be stepping up its precautions. In order to increase the safety of the players, “additional security measures will be implemented in the stadiums to better meet the requirements of the tournament and prevent such incidents.” For security reasons, it was unable to provide any further details on specific measures. UEFA has been asked about the current incident.

European Championship organiser Stenger: “We intercepted many”

“It’s an unpleasant topic, and it’s annoying,” said Markus Stenger, Managing Director of EURO 2024 GmbH. EURO 2024 GmbH is a joint venture between UEFA and the DFB to organize the tournament. In principle, more fans were intercepted than got through, said Stenger in an interview with Sportschau.

Portugal’s coach Roberto Martinez had already viewed the events in Dortmund critically and warned: “We can be happy that these fans all had good intentions.” In Gelsenkirchen it was the only visible case. There, the high walls at the bottom of the stands make it much more difficult to get into the interior of the stadium than in Dortmund.

Numerous people on the pitch during public training in Gütersloh

The issue was already present during the preparation: During a public training session in Gütersloh, a total of 13 people ran onto the pitch, according to police reports.
