City of Lugo on Track to Complete New Auditorium by End of Year

By the end of the year, the city of Lugo will have its new auditorium.

The works, started in mid-2023, for a value of 2,250,000 euros financed by funds derived from the PNRR, are in fact about to be completed. The structure, built where the former Enal club was once located, is currently in its raw state. To finish, a few more steps are needed.

“However, there isn’t much left – assures the councilor for public works, Veronica Valmori –. Within the year we should be able to inaugurate the structure which will be used for film festivals, conferences, shows and events”.

The room on the first floor of the new auditorium, created following the demolition of the former Enal and the gyms used in the past by the two Lugo judo clubs, will have a capacity of 272 seats. However, the destination of the ground floor is still uncertain, the use of which is still being defined together with the Union of Municipalities of Lower Romagna.

No prospects emerge instead for the old auditorium closed for years for security reasons. “It is unthinkable to go and modify that structure – Valmori specifies -. Getting your hands on it also means touching the shops, some of which are historic, that are on the ground floor”.

Among the interventions that are about to arrive, in this case because they will finally be started, there is that of the Pungella bridge, postponed several times, especially due to the flood of May 2023 and the consequences that have dragged on until now.

“Within a few weeks the deck will be demolished to allow the Region to carry out interventions on the embankments – Veronica Valmori explains –. After which the work should finally start during the summer”.

The project involves the construction from scratch of the bridge located in the hamlet of Villa San Martino, at a height of 1.70 meters, and of a wooden cycle/pedestrian path.

The bridge and cycle path are part of the overall amount of funding made available by the Pnrr funds (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) for the city of Lugo.

A figure that exceeds 10 million euros and which includes the construction of the city auditorium, the renovation of Palazzo Rossi and the construction of the new nursery school “La filastrocca” in Largo Corelli, now awaiting a wooden roof, and which, alone, requires an investment of three million three hundred thousand euros.
