The Cleveland Cavaliers hire Kenny Atkinson as head coach. The new man already has experience as a head coach in the NBA.
NBA club Cleveland Cavaliers has hired Kenny Atkinson as its new head coach. The 57-year-old, who previously worked as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors, will receive a five-year contract and succeed JB Bickerstaff.

“I am excited and honored,” said Atkinson. “This is an incredible opportunity to lead an already talented young team with an equally promising future.”
Atkinson has been the Warriors’ top assistant coach for the past three seasons. He also gained experience as head coach with the Brooklyn Nets from 2016 to 2020 and led the team to the playoffs in the 2018/19 season.
The Cavaliers were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs last season by eventual NBA champions Boston Celtics and subsequently fired previous head coach JB Bickerstaff.
