Coach calls on referee to take action against Vinícius Júnior’s playing style

There is once again discussion about the playing style of Brazil’s international Vinícius Júnior. The Real Madrid striker put on a gala performance in the Selecão’s 4-1 victory in the Copa América group match against Paraguay. However, the double goalscorer also sometimes overdid it with individual actions and provoked the opponent.

Paraguay’s national coach Daniel Garnero was not very enthusiastic about Vinícius’ performance and demanded that the referees do something about his style of play: “He has a style that is not easy for his opponents to accept. But that’s what referees are for. They have to set limits for him.”

After some heated scenes on the pitch, Vinícius appeared relaxed. He said: “Today I played a game at the level of the player I am.”

After the 0-0 draw against Costa Rica, he was heavily criticized, and now he said: “I always say that I never play for myself, but always for my team, for Brazil, for my country. I always want to show my best, even if that is not always possible. Today I played a great game. When I consider the level I am at as a player, I know that I can still improve and help the Selecão.”
