College Football Playoff Announces Schedule for First Year of 12-Team Format

The calendar for the decisive phase of college football has been defined. This Wednesday (06), dates have been announced for the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoffwhich will begin on December 20th, with the first round of the knockout round, and the national grand final will be held on January 20th, 2025.

The first round of CFP duels will be on the 20th and 21st of the last month of the year, with one game on Friday and three on Saturday, sharing space with NFL games. “I think it will be good for the NFL and college football to co-exist on that date,” said Mike Mulvihill, president of insights and analytics at Fox. “I think both events will be very popular.”

The four games in the first round, which will be played by the programs with the best campaign, will only be announced on December 8th, after the end of the regular college season. The other games – quarter-finals and semi-finals – will be the traditional New Year Six bowls.

The first four college football conference champions will have a bye week in the first round. The quarterfinals will begin on December 31st with the Fiesta Bowl. The new year will begin with the Peach Bowl, followed by the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl.

The semifinals will be the Orange Bowl, on January 9th, and the Cotton Bowl, on January 10th. The big decision will be at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, on January 20th.
