After the draw against Ukraine, the German national team experienced a moment of shock in the Nuremberg stadium. The police announced over the loudspeaker that there was a “concrete dangerous situation”. No one was allowed to leave the arena. Until the all-clear was finally given.

The match of the German national football team was long over. An hour after the 0:0 draw against Ukraine, almost all fans had already left the stadium in Nuremberg. However, the German national team was still in the dressing room, journalists, employees and some spectators were still in the arena when the police made an announcement over the stadium loudspeakers.

Officials asked everyone present to remain in the stadium until further notice and not to leave the arena. “We are aware of a dangerous situation outside the stadium, which we are taking very seriously,” said an announcement.

Shortly before the security forces made their announcement, national coach Julian Nagelsmann had just finished the press conference. Some players, such as Manuel Neuer, were still in the interview zone. It was 15 anxious minutes in Nuremberg. 15 minutes of uncertainty, during which the announcement was even repeated.

They announced over the loudspeaker that they had “fully clarified the matter and that at no time was there any danger to the people present in the stadium.” According to initial information from the police, an abandoned suitcase was found. The national team was eventually able to leave the stadium grounds in the team bus, albeit with a delay.

The police presence was very high due to the visit of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the opponents Ukraine. Scholz visited the national team in the dressing room after the game. The SPD politician had previously watched the 0:0 match from the stands and then went to the team accompanied by DFB sports director Rudi Völler, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and DFB managing director Andreas Rettig.
