Conmebol Releases VAR Analysis in Argentina vs. Canada Match, Argentine National Team Ready for Chile Game

As Conmebol usually does in its competitions, the mother entity of South American football today published the VAR analysis in the only play in which it intervened in the match between the Argentine National Team and Canada. It consisted of the analysis of an infringement on Jacob Shaffelburg by Lisandro Martínez that all the Canadians requested a penalty but that the video assistance did not consider – correctly – that it was inside the area.

The clock showed 24 minutes of the second half when the forward of the North American team attempted an overflow on the right of the attack and, when throwing a diagonal towards the area, was intercepted by Martínez. As they crossed, the Argentine raised his leg and connected with the Canadian, causing him to fall. Immediately, all the Canadian players called for a penalty, but the match referee did not charge anything.

The VAR review shows that, during the protocol check, the assistants identified the infraction, but since it occurred outside the area, they could not request rectification from the referee. Thus, the game continued and, although the infraction existed, it could not be charged and it had not been a penalty either.

The Argentine National Team arrived in New Jersey for the duel against Chile

With the peace of mind of the 2-0 victory against Canada in the debut, the Argentine National Team traveled from Atlanta to New Jersey and is already preparing for next Tuesday’s game against Chile. The good news? All players are at Lionel Scaloni’s disposal.

Before traveling, the team did gym work at the hotel, mainly regenerative work to get ready after the duel against Canada. Around 8 p.m. in Argentina, the players were already in New Jersey, the city where they will begin training tomorrow at the Red Bull Arena ahead of Tuesday’s game at MetLife Stadium.

The coach has the good news that no player ended up with discomfort, so all players will be available for the match. In any case, we will have to see if they come out with the same eleven against Chile or make some modifications.
