For the vast majority of tennis players, the Mecca is Wimbledon, the most mystical of the four Grand Slams and where many of the old customs remain intact. Despite being the most atypical surface on the circuit and the one where fewer tournaments are played, the All England Court breathes tennis and no one wants to miss it. On this occasion, the one who withdrew – once the draw was made – was Corentin Moutet, the most controversial player of today.

The Frenchman announced his decision an hour after the draw and claimed physical problemswhich he has been carrying since his participation in the last Roland Garros where he fell to Jannik Sinner in the fourth round. What is striking is that Moutet participated in the qualifying phase of the Halle tournament, one of the few that are organised on grass and are preparatory for Wimbledon, there he won one match and lost the next. On the other hand, it is not usual to announce a decision like this once the draw has been made. It should be noted that the same had determined that Moutet would face Álex de Miñuar in the first round of the London Grand Slam.

Who will replace Moutet at Wimbledon?

After the qualifying stage at Wimbledon was over, it was decided that Corentin Moutet would be replaced by a lucky loser, who would be one of the tennis players who went the furthest in the qualification, but by losing he was unable to enter the main draw. On this occasion the lucky one who will replace the Frenchman will be the Australian James Duckworthprecisely who had defeated Moutet in Halle a few days ago.

Moutet, the most controversial of all

Throughout history there have always been tennis players who broke the mold and moved away from the traditional. Tennis is a gentleman’s sport and conduct on and off the court is something that is highly valued. It is not well seen to break rackets, to have arguments with rivals or umpires, nor to celebrate points in an exaggerated manner, especially when it is due to an opponent’s error.

Moutet on more than one occasion crossed lines that did not sit well with his rivals. Many times he serves from under the table, other times he decides not to play certain points, and he even tends to make gestures towards the public. Without going any further, in February of this year 2024 he came to Argentina and in his defeat against Navone he decided have a soft drink, something totally out of the ordinary.
