Copa America: Lionel Messi shares giant birthday cake with Argentina fans

A little like Rafael Nadal who celebrated his birthday every year in the middle of Roland-Garros, Lionel Messi is used to celebrating his every four years with his teammates from the national team during the Copa America. And in 2024, the Albiceleste captain celebrates his 37th year on June 24. Almost at home too, because the competition is being played this year in the United States and the former Parisian is now playing for Inter Miami.

At the bottom of his hotel, located in New Jersey, a huge cake in blue and white colors was installed in honor of the idol of an entire country. Better yet, Argentinian supporters were able to participate in the festivities by eating this famous cake.

On Instagram, Lionel Messi posted a photo, cake in his hands, in the company of several of his teammates like Angel Di Maria or Leandro Paredes. “Thank you very much for all your greetings and congratulations!! Another year where my birthday is when I am with the national team… So we celebrate a little and continue to prepare for our next match,” he wrote.

After their inaugural victory (3-0) against Canada, the reigning world champions face Chile tonight for their second match in Group A. The Argentines will then face Peru before possible quarter-finals.
