While he was due to face Alex De Minaur in the first round of Wimbledon, Corentin Moutet was forced to withdraw due to bone edema, and wanted to play it safe with the Olympic Games in mind.

At Roland-Garros, he was the only French player present in the second week (elimination in the round of 16 by Jannik Sinner). But Corentin Moutet will not be able to achieve the same performance at Wimbledon. The 25-year-old from the Paris region announced his withdrawal from the London tournament on his social networks on Friday early afternoon, a few hours after the draw for the draw took place. “Since my preparation for Roland-Garros, I have been suffering from bone edema. Despite all efforts to heal and be ready for Wimbledon, the pain persists. After careful consideration with my team and doctor, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the tournament. This decision was not taken lightly, but it is necessary so as not to compromise my participation in the next Olympic Games in Paris. Thank you all for your support and understanding during this time. I can’t wait to come back stronger soon.”

Duckworth replaces him in the table

Since his beautiful Roland-Garros, the 55th player in the world has only played one tournament, in Halle where he failed in the second round of qualifying. While he has only won two matches during his entire career at Wimbledon, Corentin Moutet does not want to take risks on the London grass, and thus jeopardize his Olympic chances, he who won his ticket to Paris thanks to the withdrawal of Adrian Mannarino. Corentin Moutet was unlucky in the Wimbledon draw, being drawn in the first round by Alex de Minaur, world number 9 and former eighth-finalist of the tournament. The Australian will finally face a compatriot, James Duckworth, who won the draw to become lucky-loser, to the detriment of another Frenchman, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. There will therefore be twelve French people in the singles table.
