Costa Rica Prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games: A Look at Past Success and Future Opportunities

San José, Jun 20 (DNP).- This summer a new edition of the Summer Olympic Games will take place in Paris. It will be the third time that the popular sporting event will be held in the French capital and the 17th time that Costa Rica will participate in the event. Let’s take a closer look at what we can expect from the 2024 Olympic Games.

Costa Rica may be a small country with a small population, but that has not stopped us from participating in the Olympic Games. In fact, we have been participating regularly since 1964, when two Costa Rican athletes, one of them judo master Orlando Madrigal, traveled to the land of the rising sun to compete.

This year, it is time for Costa Rica to participate in the Olympic Games for the 17th time, and billions of spectators around the world will witness it. In the popular online casino Paf, it will be possible to bet on the thirty-two sports that will take place for those looking to make the games even more exciting.

About Costa Rica at this year’s Olympic Games

Qualifications for the Olympic Games are still ongoing, but we already know that Costa Rica will have at least four competitors participating in this year’s edition: two women and two men. They will compete in athletics, cycling and surfing. Most likely, the number of participants will increase significantly before the time for the competitions to take place. In the last Tokyo Games we had five men and eight women Olympians.

If we look at the history of Costa Rica in the Olympic Games, we see that we have won four medals, one gold, one silver and two bronze, all from the sisters Silvia and Claudia Poll in swimming. Claudia won the gold medal in Atlanta in 1996 and two bronzes in Sydney in 2000. Silvia won the silver medal in Seoul in 1988. That said, four consecutive Olympic Games have now gone by without a Costa Rican victory.

An excellent opportunity to climb the medal table

Today, Costa Rica is ranked as the 103rd Olympic country in the world (one hundred and fifty-six countries have won medals). It may sound like a low rating, but there are some pretty subtle details that make a big difference. If we win one more gold medal this year, we can climb six places in the table. And with two golds, we could reach 83rd place, jumping twenty positions. If we add one more gold medal to this, we would reach 75th place. As you hear, it doesn’t take much to climb the charts.

This year’s Olympic Games begin on July 26 and end on August 11. To participate in the events, you can follow all the ongoing competitions in the official mobile application of the Olympic Games. It is free to download and is available on Android and iOS. Of course, you can also keep up to date with events in the sports section of El País, where there are already a handful of articles related to the Olympics to consult.
