With the draft fast approaching, the mystery remains intact regarding the Lakers’ first-round pick. Which young player will be favored by the Purples and Golds? According to the latest rumors, they could set their sights on a real titan.
Ultimately, it will not be Dan Hurley who will be the coach of the Lakers in 2024-25. The coach of the University of Connecticut finally decided to return to the Huskies with whom he is a two-time reigning NCAA champion, which does not suit the Californians at all. The latter would indeed have needed his services, in particular concerning the development of certain young players.
Since we are discussing the subject, it is also difficult to know what the Purples and Golds intend to do with the 17th pick of the 2024 draft. The latest rumors reported of a potential steal for Los Angeles, but it could be that another profile would be considered by the franchise. NBA Insider for the site ClutchPointsBrett Siegel thus sees a veritable colossus fall into his hands at the end of June in order to repopulate the racket:

As a reminder, Edey is quite simply the most physically dominant player of the entire 2024 vintage and is also coming off a terrifying university career under the colors of Purdue. His stats this season? 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, just that. Expected in the lottery, he could finally slip a little and fall to the Lakers. Their fans would not necessarily be opposed to it.

Nothing obviously says that Zach Edey will actually go down to the 17th pick in the draft or even that the Lakers will take him if he is available. One thing is certain however, the potential of the racket that he would form with Anthony Davis is intriguing.
