Cross-Strait Youth Basketball Exchange Strengthens Friendship and Sportsmanship

This morning, a unique cross-strait youth basketball exchange match was held in Xiamen University Mingpei Gymnasium. The representative team composed of students from many universities in Taiwan competed with the basketball team of Xiamen University School of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

With a whistle, the basketball was thrown high up and the game officially began. Players from both sides actively fought for the ball, and the atmosphere was heated.

The exchange match brought together nearly 20 basketball enthusiasts from Taichung University of Science and Technology and other Taiwanese universities. Many of the players were first-timers. It was their first time in mainland China, and they hoped to show their strength on the court and make friends through basketball.

Li Qinglun, a player from the Taiwan basketball team: Our style of play is faster, while theirs is more of a positional style. Many of our professional players come to the mainland to play professional games. I have this opportunity and of course I hope to come here every year to exchange ideas with mainland basketball players. I think I can learn a lot.

Liang Tingkai, a player of the Taiwan national basketball team: I think in sports we can communicate with each other and see each other’s strengths. In Taiwan, we also yearn for the basketball environment in mainland China. As for the overall strength ranking, these are the directions Taiwan is still working towards.

Outside the game, players from both sides exchanged gifts to show their friendship. The Taiwan basketball team presented a wood carving of “Double Dragons Fighting for a Pearl” with the message “Both sides of the Taiwan Strait share the same origin and strengthen China.”

Xiao Junting, a player of the Taiwan basketball team, said: I am very excited. I just happened to have this opportunity (to communicate) and come to Xiamen University. This year is the Year of the Dragon, so I will use the dragon as a benchmark and use AI to create images, which represent our two dragons and guard our belief in basketball.

Taiwan basketball team coach Lu Qijie: I hope that through exchanges in basketball games, we can increase the friendship between our two sides of the Taiwan Strait, which is mainly based on basketball exchanges.
