The Cuban delegation that will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games grew this Monday with the incorporation of goalkeeper Hugo Franco and diver Prisis Leydis Ruiz, who won their tickets through different means.
Franco boarded the last train of his sport to the Paris event, winning one of the four places available in the tournament that closed the archery qualifying process, held in the Turkish city of Antalya, according to a published note on the sports portal Jit.

The key moment for the man from Pinar del Río was advancing to the semifinal round of matches in the recurve bow modality, for which he had to beat the Iranian Faez Mohammadizardkhaneh 7-3, with an emotional finish.
With the Olympic ticket assured, he lost in that instance 1-7 against Sagor Islam Md, from Bangladesh, but then defeated the Vietnamese Phong Le Quoc 6-2 in the duel for the bronze medal, the media highlights.
Franco had tried unsuccessfully to qualify for the continental competition held last April in the Colombian city of Medellín.
By achieving it now, he becomes the eighth Cuban to participate in an Olympic archery contest, a privilege first enjoyed by Juan Carlos Stevens, Ismely Arias, Yaremis Pérez and Edisbel Martínez, contestants in the Sydney 2000 edition.
Four years later, in Athens, Maydenia Sarduy performed, Stevens achieved the best historical performance with a fifth individual place in Beijing 2008, he repeated his participation in London 2012 and the last to venture into these issues was Adrián Puentes, in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
Diving is not left out
The inclusion of diving among the sports with a Cuban presence in Paris came from the offices of Wold Aquatics, which officially informed each national federation of their quotas in the three-meter springboard modality.
Through the qualifying ranking, Prisis’ ticket arrived, supported by its status as a semi-finalist in the most recent world sports championship, held last February in Doha, Qatar, where it finished in 16th place.
