Czech National Team Faces Uphill Battle in Qualification for Championship

The Czech national team remained in last place in the table, three points behind third-placed Belgium, and they only have a theoretical chance for second place and direct promotion to the championship in Switzerland.

The first two teams from all four groups of the elite level A will go to the tournament. The teams in third and fourth places are guaranteed the autumn playoffs.

The Czechs, who lost to the Belgians 1:2 on Friday in Prague’s Eden, were longing for a successful revenge. In the 19th minute, Dubcová ran onto Szewieczková’s cross and got the ball into the goal from close range. The AC Milan midfield followed up on the goal from the opening match.

The goalkeeper Lukášová resisted for a long time during her debut in the qualification, the home players created more pressure only in the final quarter of an hour. In the end, Blomová got through with a header in the 79th minute.

The national team at least maintained a draw even after the expulsion of Pěčková, who in the 81st minute dragged an escaping opponent and saw a red card.

“In the attacking phase, we created a lot of situations, we should have scored more goals. The opponent then had pressure, equalized and it was already difficult for us at ten. I have to give the girls a huge compliment, they played a great game, but we lacked productivity,” coach Karel assessed Advice for web FACR.

The Czech national team, which has not yet qualified for any major tournament, will finish the group on July 12 at home with the world champions from Spain and four days later in Denmark.
