Dallas Mavericks Trade Tim Hardaway Jr. for Quentin Grimes to Clean Up Finances

Dallas is cleaning up its finances to extend its executives. Largely beaten by Boston in the NBA final (4-1), the Texan franchise has decided to part ways with Tim Hardaway Jr., sent to Detroit, in exchange for Quentin Grimes, according to information from Adrian Wojnarowski. The ESPN journalist adds that the Mavs have won three second rounds of the Draft for the 32-year-old winger.

Detroit also traded three second-round draft picks (one in 2025, two in 2028). Tim MacMahon, also employed by ESPN, reveals the main financial reasons for this operation: to extend Derrick Jones Jr., whose contract expires this summer.

The final year of Hardaway Jr.’s lease with Dallas was worth about $16.2 million. A significant saving in terms of Jones Jr.’s long-term tenure.
