According to ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers have been turned down by their new preferred candidate for the vacant coaching position.

According to reports, Dan Hurley rejected the NBA franchise’s contract offer of $70 million for six years.

Instead, the 51-year-old wants to win the third NCAA title in a row with the Connecticut Huskies.

“FOX News” reports that the coach informed his players on Thursday that he was in negotiations with the NBA franchise from California. But now he has apparently decided to stay with the Huskies.

The Lakers were desperate to lure the son of Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley Sr. to their team. General Manager Rob Pelinka, along with owner Jeanie Buss, met with the UConn coach on Friday and tried to persuade him – but to no avail.

Apparently, Hurley was on the Lakers’ radar from the very beginning of the Californians’ search for a coach.

Lakers superstar LeBron James also seemed to be fond of Hurley. In April, he paid homage to the Huskies coach in an “X” post.

With James turning 40 in December, the Lakers’ perspective is increasingly turning to Anthony Davis.

He will also be involved in the search for a coach. James’ co-star will ensure that he is happy with the new coach’s plans.
