Daru qualified, alongside Gilavert and Miellet, after his victory in the 3000m steeplechase

Middle distance runner Nicolas-Marie Daru qualified for the Paris Olympic Games thanks to his victory in the 3000m steeplechase at the French Athletics Championships, this Saturday, June 29 in Angers. A rare discipline where there were more candidates for Olympic spots (4) than places available (3), the 3000m steeplechase was one of the most anticipated races of the Championships, a competition that acts as a judge of peace to establish the Olympic selection according to the terms of the French Athletics Federation. By winning the race in 8mn 24s 37, Daru won the “priority status” at the age of 35, which ensures that he will see the Olympic Games. Just behind him, Louis Gilavert (8mn 24s 39) and Alexis Miellet (8mn 24s 91) completed the podium and also validated their Olympic tickets to the detriment of European vice-champion Djilali Bedrani, 4th in the final and big loser of the day.
