Edin Terzic gradually hugged his bitterly disappointed Dortmund players, while the Real Madrid players, including the great triumphant Toni Kroos, celebrated their next Champions League title. Despite a strong performance and the best chances, BVB lost the final 2-0 to the big favorite and now 15-time Champions League winner Real Madrid. The Dortmund players were devastated. The reactions.

Trainer Edin Terzic: “It’s very difficult for me to find the right words because I’m going through a huge emotional chaos right now. One second I’m very proud of the performance we showed. The next second I feel disappointed and empty. We played a great game and perhaps we deserved a little more. We showed the whole world that we believe that we’re not here to play a final, but to win a final. Real then had the killer instinct that we simply lacked today. That’s why they deserved to be Champions League winners.”

Mats Hummels: “That was more than equal, we played a great game. That sounds stupid, but I’m really proud of the team. We played with courage and heart, with footballing class. We missed the chance to score. Then Madrid struck, as they have done for 100 years. Herrmann Gerland once said: Luck is always skill. And we were lucky in this Champions League season, but not today. That hurts.”

Hummels when asked whether this was his last game for BVB due to his expiring contract: “It feels strange not knowing. I have no idea how things will continue, what will happen. That will all be decided in the next few weeks.” Hummels had previously said that ending his career was the least likely option.

Sebastian Kehl: “It was an almost perfect game in the first half. It would have been perfect if we had used at least one of our many scoring opportunities. We were very close. I think we deserved it. “The disappointment is very, very big. We will certainly need a few days to process this first.”

About Marco Reus: “Unfortunately, it was his last game today for Dortmund. We couldn’t have wished for anything better than to hold up the trophy with him. He would have deserved it.”
